Findings for parents

During Phase One of Developing in Digital Worlds, our research team visited schools and early childhood centres, asking parents about their children’s access to and use of digital devices. The responses from parents are summarised in the e-pamphlets below.

Parents with children in early childhood education

We visited 4 early childhood centres and asked 31 parents with 4-5 year old children about their children’s access to and use of digital devices.

Parents with children in early adopting schools

In these “early adopting” schools, students are already in high-usage digital environments in and out-of-school. We visited 7 different early adopting schools and talked to 48 parents about their access to digital devices and their children’s use of digital devices.

Parents with children in later adopting English medium schools

In these “later adopting” schools, the students are at the initial stages of digital interaction. We visited 4 English medium later adopting schools, and asked 35 parents about their access to digital devices and their children’s use of digital devices.

Whānau with tamariki in later adopting Māori medium schools

In these “later adopting” schools, the students are at the initial stages of digital interaction. We visited 3 Māori medium later adopting kura, and asked 32 whānau members about their access to digital devices and how their tamariki use digital devices.
